We had such a great time discussing personal branding at our event Rock Your Personal Brand Online at Spaces Works in Chevy Chase. We had a great time meeting you, sharing some wine and answering all your thoughtful questions on the topic of personal branding. Here’s just a little snippet about some of the topics we talked about:
- You have a personal brand whether you know it or not – it is up to you to take control of how you want to show up in the online world.
- You don’t stand out if you are posting the same types of images that everyone else is – stock photos, selfies, quotes. Where are YOU in those images?
- Personal branding is not personal bragging.
- Before the internet, people used to conduct business face-to-face almost all the time. That was a time in which your clients knew a little about you, your favorite football team and maybe a little bit about your kids. There was a trust born from actually seeing a person and knowing a little about their personal life.
- Sometimes taking a stand and ultimately repelling those who are NOT your ideal client is OK.
- The truth is that you have to work harder to be seen and to communicate why you are different and why people should buy from you. This is why visual storytelling is vital.
- Ask friends, family, colleagues, and clients how you are showing up online. What is their impression about what you appear to stand for and whether you come across as being authentic, credible and trustworthy.
- Personal brand photos are necessary for anyone who wants to attract their ideal clients online.
