It’s crucial for a business owner to look their best when on camera for branding photo shoots. A well-done hair and makeup can make a world of difference in the final outcome, which is why it’s one of the most important aspects that should not be skimped on. The quality of these services directly impacts how professional you look and feel as a business owner.
Here are five reasons why you need skilled hair and makeup artist for your branding photo shoot:
1) You want to turn heads.
A hair and makeup artist knows how to use hair extensions, hair pieces, hair color, face paint and other tools to skillfully build a beautiful head of hair and apply makeup that can create the right “wow” factor you’re going for. The hair will be flowing and the makeup will be on point. Instead of looking like a hair and makeup disaster, you’ll appear polished and ready for the spotlight.
2) You want to present yourself as an expert.
A hair and makeup artist knows how to create stunning hair and makeup that can make you look like a natural in front of the camera. You won’t have to worry about looking awkward, as your hair and makeup will give off the vibe that you know what you’re doing. As an expert in your field, hair and makeup can improve your image from that of a nervous amateur to a self-assured professional.
3) You want people to take you seriously as an entrepreneur.
Clients want to work with people who look like they’re in control of themselves and their business. When you step in front of the camera, hair extensions, hair color, hair pieces and expert hair styling can help you feel more confident about your hair and makeup (which will translate into how self-assured you appear on camera). While your hair and makeup will never fix a bad attitude, they can help you start off on the right foot.
4) You want to create the illusion of natural beauty.
A hair and makeup artist knows how to accentuate your natural beauty and minimize your imperfections. By using hair and makeup products that flatter your facial features, hair color & hair styles to suit your complexion and hair types, (e.g., straight hair or curly hair) a hair and makeup artist is able to help you achieve the look you’re aiming for.
What hair and makeup products you use can make a big difference. Consult with your hair and makeup artist on the hair care products to use for your hair type and texture before your branding photo shoot, as hair care products that are used incorrectly will result in an undesirable look (e.g., limp, oily hair).
5) You want to look as good on camera as you do in real life.
You and your hair and makeup artist should discuss how you want to be portrayed in the branding photo shoot (e.g., professional, fun, fresh, sophisticated, sexy). Your hair and makeup artist should be able to interpret what you mean using their professional expertise.
I have worked with hair and makeup artists who are skilled at creating various looks for different types of photo shoots depending on the client’s preferences as well as the type of brand being promoted (e.g., hair and makeup that is fresh, fun, dramatic , bold, understated, etc.).

Q: How and Why Did You Become a Hair and Makeup Artist?
A: I met a hairdresser in college who loved her job and thought it would be perfect for me. She was so right! I love working with people and with my hands.
Q: What are the core values of your brand?
A: To offer a service with the highest standards with a personal touch and approach.
Q: What makes you different from other HMUAs out there?
A: I work with all skin tones and hair textures as well as men. Many hair and makeup artists are not as gender neutral, they have a certain style. I think I’ve managed to cater to any and all situations involving hair and makeup which makes me a huge asset to production, wedding days and my photographer clients.
Q: Who are the clients you most love working with?
A: All of them! However I have a soft spot for uplifting someone feeling down or less confident with themselves. I am also great with tricky, particular, or “difficult” clients because I can do the job without taking it personally and love a challenge and opportunity to problem solve.
Q: How do most of your clients feel before they work with you?
A: Nervous.
Q: How about after?
A: Fabulous! =) I hear “Oh, wow!” a lot.
Q: Why should people have their hair and makeup done before a brand photo shoot?
A: To relieve themselves of the pressure and stress, even physically. It’s knowing a pro has your back. It also gives the client a second to relax before what can be a bit of a nerve-wracking process.
Q: How are you growing your business and brand over the next year?
A: I will open a retail space, teach classes to trainees, open up bookings for additional hair and makeup artists and focus more on creating high end editorial content that will help me get more recognition and sign with a major talent agency.
Q: What is the best way for people to get in contact with you?
A: Fill out the form on my website or email. I have three admin assistants so we are prompt with our replies.

Now you know!
Hair and makeup is one of the most pivotal aspects when preparing for a branding photo shoot. A skilled hair and makeup artist will ensure that you have an attractive headshot while also making sure not to over exaggerate any features on camera which may give away your age or weight through digital editing (or worse – distort). It’s crucial for a business owner to look their best when on camera for branding photo shoots as hair & makeup directly impacts how professional they appear in photos.
