“Who do you have to be to show up for your six-figure business?”
Several years ago, I was telling my coach that I really wanted to be a six-figure business owner. Then she asked me, “Well, who do you have to be to earn six figures in your business?”
At the time, that question really annoyed me. I thought it meant I needed to be like someone else, not who I really am. It made me think that I needed to emulate other, more successful people in order to achieve the kind of success I really wanted in my business and in my life.
So, I didn’t spend much time thinking through the answer to that question. Instead, I kept doing the things that made me comfortable. Things I knew how to do really well. Things that didn’t put me out of my comfort zone.
My comfort zone is relationship building.
It’s easy for me to be social so I leaned into that heavily. I went to tons of meetings in different networking groups, met lots of different people for coffee, and spent hours on connection calls every month.
While all these efforts were successful (I developed an amazing local network and grew my client base), in 3 years of following this strategy, I still wasn’t making six figures in my business. I was definitely increasing my client base and making more revenue but it was a very slow process.
Once again, I was presented with the same question from another mentor but this time, in a different way.
She asked me, “Melissa, how do you need to SHOW UP to make six figures in your business?”
When I heard that, I suddenly understood. It isn’t about being someone you are not. It’s about stepping outside of your comfort zone and taking action without being married to the outcome. Seems simple but not easy, right?
When I really dug down into it, showing up for me looks like this:
- Pricing my services to reflect the value I bring to my clients
- Being consistent on social media,
- Setting more boundaries,
- Saying “no” or “maybe later” to things that are not related to my current goal
- Launching my new branding (coming soon!)
- Speaking on more stages
- My own new brand photos!
