Storytelling is powerful! It is what connects us with one another. Storytelling has been a part of human life since the dawn of man. But as much as we know how powerful storytelling is, sometimes it can be so difficult to look at our
own lives and figure out what stories our audience might like to know about us.
And even when we do figure out what stories will connect us to our audience, finding the right
images to match can be daunting. The thing is, your words in combination with photos that complement those words – that’s storytelling
NIRVANA!
What can you do to figure out what stories you should be telling?
My rule of thumb is to find the commonalities between your life and that of your target audience.
For example, my client Ashley, started her business in her kid’s playroom because she was tired of
the long hours and big demands of her corporate life and wanted to put her family first.
She told me that the authors in her target audience are also parents of young children!
That is, in part, where the idea for this image of Ashley having a flour fight with her girls while making
Stromboli was born.
Ashley uses this image along with written content about the joy of being a parent AND an
entrepreneur. It captures the emotion of the moment and CONNECTS her on a deeper level with the
entrepreneur/parents in her audience.
