I could go on and on about why I’m not a fan of using stock photos for your brand but why don’t I just let one of my clients give you their opinion…
A dear client of mine, Alex of AIS Collaborations helps business owners organize and streamline their business processes so they can focus on serving their clients. She recently confided in me that she really dislikes using stock photography in her business but her reasons were things I never really thought about before.
Stock images don’t connect!
In addition to the fact that searching for stock photos is a real time suck, Alex also said that sometimes she will find an image that matches the topic of her blog post but that doesn’t match the demographics of the clients she serves.
For example, an image of two male executives shaking hands might match the topic of her post but if she is targeting women entrepreneurs who own creative businesses, that type of client would not connect at all with that generic “business” image.
Alex also says that in looking for stock images that convey a sense of lightheartedness or more fun, upbeat emotions, sometimes the situations that are represented in stock imagery are completely unrelatable or are just plain over the top!
It’s all good for Alex though
The good news for Alex? She won’t be needing to use stock images for her business anymore.
Wink…wink…
